What We Do
If you have ever built a house, owned a dog, or started a business, you have probably
dealt with staff from Inspections, an integral function offered by the Environmental
and Development Services Department.
Inspections is responsible for enforcing the bylaws of the Regional District developed
at the request of the public to govern our community. The Inspections staff enforces
the bylaws, either on a continual proactive basis, such as dog control, or by request
of a resident, such as weed control.
The Inspections function is also responsible for the licensing of businesses in
the Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West Electoral Areas. The building
inspection staff work to ensure the safety of the public through the application
and enforcement of the BC Building Code and local zoning bylaws.
Please note: As of September 8, 2008 the
Regional District is no longer providing building inspections, plan checking, applications
for building permits and business licenses or bylaw enforcement relating to the
Westside District Municipality. For inquiries about these services please
contact the Westside District Municipality, Development Services located at the
Mount Boucherie Community Complex (2760 Cameron Road) or call 250-707-2999.
Inspection services in the Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West Electoral
Areas (outside the boundary of the Westside District Municipality) are not affected
and will continue to be processed by the Regional District with existing procedures.
As of March 21, 2007, the Regional District no longer enforces the following bylaws
on behalf of the City of Kelowna: Intersection Sightlines, Nuisance Trees
and Shrubs and Boulevard Maintenance. If you live within the City of Kelowna,
please contact the City of Kelowna Enforcement Office or follow this link to the
City Bylaw Services webpage.
