Building Permits & Inspections
Building Bylaws
Ensuring public safety and compliance with a number of building regulations is the
main thrust of the Regional District of Central Okanagan Building Bylaw No. 835.
This Bylaw sets policy for administering the regulations of the BC Building Code
including local regulations, permits and building inspections.
The Building Bylaw is enforced on a continual basis. It applies to the Central Okanagan East
and Central Okanagan
West Electoral Areas of the Regional
District.

Building permits are required for construction and renovations
of any structure, including sewer systems, fences and outbuildings.
Inspections are required to approve various states of construction.
Property owners should also be aware of the importance of Interface fire protection
and, where possible, consider the use of building products that can reduce the potential
threat of an interface fire. Click on the following link to

Inspection Checklist
The following lists the items that will be reviewed by the Inspector, in accordance
with the Building Bylaw. For a detailed checklist of items that will be reviewed

To Call for an Inspection
Inspections are required at various stages in the construction process to ensure
that construction conforms to the minimum standards of the BC Building Code. Please
try to call 24 hours in advance for your inspection. In general, inspection requests
received up to 9:00 am will normally be completed that day. Requests received after
9:00 am will usually be completed the following day. As Building Inspectors are
unable to provide a specific inspection time, the work to be inspected must be ready
at any time during that day. Construction can only proceed once you have received
inspection approval. When more than one re-inspection is required, a re-inspection
fee of $50 must be paid prior to the re-inspection.
