Prohibited Animal Bylaw

The Regional District of Central Okanagan Prohibited Animal Bylaw lists prohibited animals, which except for provisions of Section 3 of the bylaw, shall not be kept, exhibited for entertainment or educational purposes, or displayed in public, either on a temporary or permanent basis.

Persons who violate provisions of this bylaw may, on summary conviction, be liable to penalties under the Offense Act.

Bylaw No. 1028 is enforced by complaint only, in all Regional District of Central Okanagan Electoral Areas, the City of Kelowna, and the Corporation of the District of Peachland.

How to Register a Complaint

  • Telephone - (250) 469-6214 (Inspector's 24 hour voice mail) OR, during office hours, 8am-4pm call the Inspection Section at (250) 469-6211 and ask for Rhoda Mueller and leave a voice mail when prompted.
  • It is helpful if you include any or all of the following:
    • civic address or best detailed description of problem location
    • any owner or occupier information (if known)
    • your specific concern
    • your name, address and phone number, so the inspector can contact you for further information (not mandatory, but helpful and is not given out)

Please note that the bylaw is not enforced pro-actively. Your concerns or complaints must be reported to initiate enforcement.
