Will my garbage still be picked up if I place it out in bags other than the standard garbage bags? (For example, bags from retail or grocery stores).

No.  Under the Automated Collection program, garbage will only be collected in the grey wheeled garbage container.  However, up to two additional bags of garbage with tag-a-bag stickers attached may be placed by each household at the curb for weekly pickup.  Here is the link to the list of locations that you may purchase additional tag-a-bag stickers.

If I have a small appliance such as a TV, microwave or VCR, can I put it out with my regular curbside garbage collection?

If your small appliance is made mostly of metal, you should first contact a local metal recycler to see if they will accept it for recycling ( Knox Mountain Metals - (250) 763-6502, Action Metals - (250) 765-6607, Dead Metal Recycling - (250) 808-4955. If your small appliance is made mostly of plastic, you can include it in your regular curbside garbage collection as long as your garbage fits inside the grey lid wheeled cart.  Safely recycle your old computer, monitor, printer, fax machine or television through the Encorp Electronics Return-It program.
