Annual Hazardous Waste Round Up

The Household Hazardous Waste Round Up is usually held on the third Saturday of October for the free drop off of residential hazardous waste.

It's been hugely popular.  The 19th annual event in 2009 saw 1,050 vehicles drop off more than 45,000 litres of unwanted household eco-nasties.  View 2009 News Release

You don't have to wait for this annual event to safely dispose of your household hazardous waste.  Check out this webpage to learn more about your year-round options for safe disposal.

Residents should take precautions when transporting these goods to the event. Here are a few simple steps to follow:

  1. Make sure containers have tightly attached lids to prevent leaks.
  2. Make sure materials are labelled as best as possible so staff know what they are handling.
  3. Pack in a sturdy box and place upright to prevent spills. Don't pack materials in large plastic bags. Line your trunk with plastic if desired.
  4. Keep items in the trunk of your car, away from children, pets or food products.
  5. Containers that are empty and dry can go into your regular household garbage.

How We're Doing?

Since 1999, a number of areas have been tracked to provide a benchmark and indication of how our Waste Management programs are performing.  Here's how we're doing in the areas of Solid Waste, Recycling and Hazardous Waste.
