Important Information to keep Garbage Collection running smoothly during COVID-19 Crisis -

As COVID-19 continues to impact services across the community it’s important to keep garbage collection and waste management running smoothly. Garbage collection is considered an essential service and the RDCO Waste Reduction Office and its member municipalities are working to ensure the least amount of disruption to service over the coming weeks and months.

In order to reduce the strain on all waste management services residents are asked to note the following important reminders and changes:

As of June 1, 2020, the following services are suspended at this time to ensure garbage collection can continue smoothly:

  • Tag-a-Bags for extra garbage will no longer be accepted
  • Cash is not accepted as payment at the Westside Transfer Station in West Kelowna or at the Glenmore Landfill in Kelowna.

Weekly curbside garbage collection is provided to single family homes in the Central Okanagan with the exception of homes on First Nation land (WFN Reserves and OKIB Duck Lake Reserve). Residents in condominiums and apartments will have garbage collected through a private waste hauler and should contact their landlord or strata council for further information.

What to do with Extra Garbage

Purchase Tag-a-Bag stickers for up to two additional bags/containers of garbage 
Haul extra garbage to the Glenmore Landfill or Westside Residential Disposal and Recycling Centre

Garbage – Band Lands

For information on garbage collection for homes on Westbank First Nation lands (Reserves #9 and#10) contact the band office at 250-769-4999. Information for garbage collection on Okanagan First Nation Duck Lake Reserve #7 is available by contacting the Band office at 250-542-4328.
